NANGUNGA, UGANDA

OUR PILOT SITE

Feeding Villages has been actively working on building and expanding our initiatives in Nangunga, a village found in Eastern Central Uganda 70 kilometers from Kampala.  Nangunga is characterized as a primary village, within several villages exists. These villages are 1) Ggela, 2) Namulesa, 3) Ggamba, 4) Kalagala, and 5) Ddungi.

Each village consist of about 230 homes and on average, there are 5 family members per home. The main activity for the village is small scale farming. Items include cassava, maize, and sugar cane. Sugar cane is the main cash crop and food source for the villagers. Most homes are headed by grandparents who care for their grandchild as the parents are out looking for work and support elsewhere.

We made our first contact with the village in December 2018, and our presence was positively received!

This is our chance to do something great!

One of our overarching themes is to provide nourishing food to those most vulnerable — infants, children, pregnant women, and the elder. In 2019, we increased the volume and diversity of food in Nangunga through our strategic initiatives. We hope that our successes here in Nangunga will serve as the foundation of our work elsewhere in Uganda.

We are looking forward to continuing to work with and serve the gracious and welcoming people of Nangunga!

WHERE IS NANGUNGA LOCATED EXACTLY?

Nangunga and its smaller villages are located 70 kilometers from Kampala, Uganda in the district of Buikwe. Accessibility is difficult as the area lacks paved roads. Often times, during the rainy season, dirt roads are flooded, cutting the villages off from main arteries that bring in much needed supplies.
