CLEAN WATER

Why Bother with Clean Water?

24 million Ugandans lack access to safe, clean water.

Unsafe water sickens millions of Ugandans each year and low-income, rural communities are disproportionately at risk. When a person suffers from intestinal worms, dysentery, cholera, or other disease spread by unsafe water, nutrients are not absorbed and do not make it where they need to be in the body.

We at Feeding Villages believes that clean water is a basic human right. With improved access to clean water, people can continue building towards a brighter, safer, and healthier future.

Want to help the people of Nangunga?

Clean Water Pilot Project

Our Clean Water Initiatives seek to provide remotes villages with access to clean water, safe water for drinking, cooking, and personal hygiene.

The Issue

One of the main sources of water in the remote village of Nangunga, Uganda was coming from a  dilapidated, dirty well. The well was not sealed, allowing unwanted debris to enter the opening and contaminate the water supply below. Additionally, there was no pump mechanism to draw water from the reservoir up to the surface which made the process of retrieving water very difficult for the women and young children tasked to do so.

The Solution

Feeding Villages partnered with local contractors to clean the existing well and deepen the shaft to tap into a larger reservoir below. We also sealed the well with a cement cap to protect the underground water from debris. Finally, we installed a heavy-duty hand pump to more efficiently draw water to the surface. The completed project can be seen below.
